Empower Pacific -Solomon Islands
The significance of counselling services has evolved in Empower Pacific Solomon Island Branch with the rapidly changing social and cultural influences. Due to Western influences, counselling is no longer limited to elders, the younger generation is also being assisted for a healthier mental well-being. There are two staff at Empower Pacific Solomon Island Branch who are dedicated to providing these services. The Empower Pacific Branch has been providing Counselling services since 2016. The branch is located in Honiara National Referral Hospital. Currently, Empower Pacific Solomon Island counselling programs are being funded by ChildFund and the University of the South Pacific (USP).
The counsellors also provide training and counselling to the staff and in-patients at the Ministry of Health - National Referral Hospital. One to one counselling sessions and trainings are conducted for issues such as Depression, Anxiety, Stress, NCDs (Diabetes, High Blood Pressure), Amputations, Mental Health Care, Grief and Loss.
The USP students and staff, Telekom and Solo Power have also benefitted through the trainings and counselling sessions provided by Empower Pacific Solomon Island Branch. One to one counselling sessions and trainings through presentations on various issues have assisted many vulnerable employees in improving their mental health well-being. Trainings conducted for business houses include Gender Equality, Stress Management and Anger Management.
Counselling sessions are also provided to communities if referred from Honiara City Council Clinic. In addition to counselling, the two Empower Pacific counsellors also conduct several Communities of Practice trainings on topics such as Trauma, Healthy Communication, Self-Care and Self Awareness.
Empower Pacific Solomon Island Branch will continue to empower people, families and communities to take control of their own situation, particularly assisting the most vulnerable in their search for mental, financial and emotional health and well-being.
